CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

'BEST SERVED COLD: a zine about queer comeuppance' is a collaborative zine series about queer victory over prejudice. By focusing on class, gender, and feminism intersections, Best Served Cold urges those of us who are running on spite alone to persevere and win over the world. Featuring exclusively queer contributors, each issue is themed. Despite our resiliency, we want to acknowledge our vibrancy, too. With short stories, art, poetry, and creative non-fiction, the zine aims to be cathartic, yet validation, gut-wrenching, yet a wild ride.

VOLUME ONE's theme is CRIMINALLY QUEER. Tell us your best 'be gay do crime' short story. Tell us about your should've-been-illegal moments of success. Anything goes. Just make it fleshy, raw, and authentic!

We are currently filling the following spots:

  • 2 short stories at max 3500 words each

  • 4 short poems max at 25-30 lines

  • 1 long poem at max 100 words

  • 6 original art pieces

  • 3 CNFs at max 1500 words

Please send your submissions to bestservedcoldzine@gmail.com with a short 150 word bio.

The deadline to submit is September 1st 2022.

What's Coming Next

"COLD BREW" (SERIES)

Spring, 2023

In a near-future Toronto, two assassins are forced into witness protection where they must kill anyone the agent in charge of their case demands, but when a new drug threatens the city, they realize they may be destined for more than they ever imagined. Cold Brew is currently in pre-production.

PINK IN THE NIGHT (SHORT)

November 2022

When two people from different planes of existence meet at a wedding
reception, they realize they are not as different as they thought, nor are they who they claim to be.

DESTRUCTIVE HERESIES (CHAPBOOK)

October, 2022

A love letter to love. In Destructive Heresies you'll find poetry about love, no matter how unconventional it may have been. Using the four seasons as a guide, it is intended to show how much a body & heart can change over a year. It's far more sacrilegious than the bible verses it's named after. Styled like a long prayer, it sends a message into the universe to abandon the unhealthy & traditional & make way for the good & strange.
